This area of Surrey is situated between London and the south coast, bordering onto Sussex and Hampshire. It comprises woodland and hills with picturesque small towns, villages, pubs and country houses.

Farnham is an ancient and very attractive small town with a castle. It retains many independent shops and has some charming courtyards and walkways.

Haslemere is equally attractive and smaller than Farnham.

Both towns have main-line stations with London less than an hour away.

Many of the world's major visitor attractions can be accessed within an hour or so, including Windsor Castle, Hampton Court, RHS Gardens, Stonehenge and Salisbury (Sarum), Goodwood, Portsmouth (HMS Victory, Mary Rose and all things maritime), Leeds Castle, Arundel Castle (Largest in Europe), Jane Austen's House, Winchester (Ancient capital), The New Forest, Petworth House, Farnborough (for the Air Show) and several spectacular cathedrals. London is less than an hour by train from Haslemere or Farnham. There are also world class attractions for the young including Lego Land, white knuckle theme parks and south coast resorts and beaches. Closer to hand there are many less famous but equally attractive places to visit.

The city of Guildford is the County town of Surrey. Ten miles to the east, it has live theatre, cinemas and clubs together with its famous cobbled High Street.
